Tantallon Castle |
This spectacular ruin is located near North Berwick, to the east of Edinburgh. It dates from 1375 and it was never taken until Cromwell's general, Monk destroyed it in 1651 after 12 days of bombardment. In the distance is Bass Rock which has, over the years has served as the home for St Baldred, a prison for Covenanters, a prison for Jacobites and most recently a bird sanctuary.
